Board President: Sue Stukey
Sue is a native of Massachusetts, but spent many summers in Vermont visiting grandparents in Post Mills, in the eastern part of Orange County. She and her husband Art lived in many places around the country (and overseas) but always came back to Vermont and family. They joined the Washington Unitarian Universalist Congregation about ten years ago, as summer visitors, and for the last few years have served on the Board.
Sue has had years of experience with Unitarian Universalism on both the local and national level. She served eight years on the UUA’s Board of Trustees as the delegate from the Central Midwest District, ending her term in 2007 as she and Art moved to Vermont full time. She believes that Unitarian Universalism has a voice that should be heard in the dialogue of today, and that the community she finds each summer at the UU Congregation of Washington is dear to her heart and worth preserving.
Vice President: Cecile Sherburn
Treasurer: Dawn Evans
Dawn moved to Vermont in 2019, having retired after a nearly forty-year career as a lawyer in Texas, Michigan, and Oregon. Born in California, she spent her early years in St. Louis, Missouri, West Virginia, and Texas before finding her heart home in Western Massachusetts where she lived through high school. She returned to Texas for college and law school, working first in Huntsville and then in Austin for many years.
Her first visit to a UU church was in East Lansing, Michigan, the first Sunday following Obama’s election as President in 2008, as she sought out people who would be as excited as she was about his election. She was not disappointed. She presently serves as a member of the Executive Team of the Unitarian Church of Montpelier. She became a member of the Washington UU Congregation in June 2024.
She is married to Michael Evans, who was her high school boyfriend whom she married 35 years after they met. She has two sons and two grandsons, and lives in Groton. She serves on the Groton Planning Commission and is a Trustee of the Groton Free Public Library.
Secretary: Katharina Mack
Katharina grew up in Germany and moved to the United States in 2000. While living in California, she started spending her summers in Washington, VT until she moved here full time in 2014. Katharina attended her first UU Congregation service in the summer of 2011 and was immediately drawn to the openness of the church and the community she found here. “Having been raised a Catholic and still recovering from the ramifications, I never thought I would want to belong to a church again. The UU Congregation changed my mind – everything I was missing in the Catholic Church, I find here.”
Board Trustee: Roberta Carrier
Board Trustee: Fran Krushenik
Fran relocated to Warren, VT in 2001 and, several years later, moved to Montpelier. She was teaching in and directing pre-K programs for 48 years and also facilitated workshops for teachers during that time. She was married for 41 years until her husband died in 1998. Fran has three grown children and four grandchildren who she loves spending time with. She volunteers at the Unitarian Church Community Lunch, at the Montpelier Food Pantry and at the pre-K program for 4-year olds in Warren, VT. Fran is an avid Scrabble player and plays at the Montpelier Activity Senior Center once a week.
